أُطلقت “أيام القاهرة لصناعة السينما” كمنصّة مخصصة لدعم وتطوير الصناعة السينمائية في العالم العربي وأفريقيا، من خلال توفير فرص التمويل والتدريب والتشبيك بين صُنّاع الأفلام والخبراء الدوليين. تضم الأيام عدة برامج ومحاور رئيسية أبرزها: ملتقى القاهرة السينمائي، منتدى المحترفين، وورش العمل المتخصصة. وقد أصبحت اليوم إحدى أهم الفعاليات المهنية في المنطقة، لما تقدمه من فرص حقيقية لتطوير المشاريع والمواهب الناشئة.

Today: Panel Discussion on Telling the Stories of ‘Gharemat’ on Screen at Cairo Industry Days
As part of Cairo Industry Days, held within the framework of the 46th Cairo International Film Festival, Sofitel Hotel – Nefertiti Hall hosts today, Thursday, November 20, a panel discussion titled “’Gharemat’: How Their Voices Are Portrayed on Screen in Collaboration with Misr El Kheir Foundation.” The session will run from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM, moderated by media professional Hala El Sayed, and is open to all badge holders.
This panel highlights one of the most impactful social issues in Egyptian society by discussing the experiences of “Gharemat”—women imprisoned for failing to repay small debts—and how their stories can be cinematically presented with a humane spirit that respects their suffering and reflects the depth of their experience, avoiding stereotypical or superficial treatments. Participants include Dr. Hanan El Derbashy, Head of the Gharemat Sector at Misr El Kheir Foundation, and director Mohanad Diab. During the session, two short films directed by Diab will be screened, followed by a discussion on the mechanisms of transforming these real-life stories into honest and influential visual works.
The session explores the pivotal role that art and cinema can play in giving these women a voice and a space to express their circumstances and challenges. It also examines how to build a visual narrative that mirrors their complex human reality, contributing to a shift in societal perspective and broadening awareness of the issue.
This panel is part of a series of discussions aimed at strengthening cinema’s role in addressing social issues and building bridges between art and civil society institutions, reflecting the Cairo International Film Festival’s commitment to fostering deep, humanistic, and artistic dialogue on contemporary issues.
